First Week to 26.2

Last week I made the promise to myself ( and shared with any of you that care to read) to start training to run a marathon in Oct. So how did it go the first week? That depends on how you look at it. For one, I ran/walked only 5 out of 7 days for a total of only 14 miles. Or you could look at it as “Hey I ran/walked 5 out of 7 days for a total of 14 miles!! “

I figure it’s a start. It is a struggle I won’t lie. My goal right now is to run without walking the 4 mile path I have been currently taking. I am not really concerned with speed right now (ok maybe a little) I just really want to run & not walk.

So there you have it. First week down.

Burr it’s cold

Yesterday afternoon I was walking across the parking lot at the hospital, the wind was blowing what I thought was pretty cold air. But being the new gal from Bama I was not about to say anything about it being cold. Last thing I wanted was to be called a Whimp from the south. But while I was in a patient’s room the family started talking about how cold it was and I started laughing a little and had to explain how happy I was that I was not the only one putting on a jacket before going outside.

Just so you know the temp (didn’t know at the time) was in the 40s. And I have not check the weather today but there was prediction of snow in NE Kansas. Which is a few hours away from me but I say “Snow please hold off until I get my winter clothes here!!”

I never said how often I would blog, so I won’t need to say I’m sorry for the long time gap. But I did think it was time to catch up a little.
I have finally found a place to live here in Wichita. It is not in a downtown loft as I once wished. But I did find a townhome complex near work. 2bed,1.5bath. And yes for those worried about my safety during tornado season it does have a basement. I like that there is plenty of room for all my stuff.
Speaking of stuff I really never thought of myself as materialistic but I have been without my stuff for so long I really do miss it. But we will be reunited soon.
Yesterday was my first Director’s retreat here. The morning was spent in a meeting, very good and motivating one I must add, and the afternoon was spent bowling. Very fun, but I will say after seeing some bowl you kind of wonder how we can take each serious again. And as far as my score it doesn’t even need to be mentioned, so I won’t. I will say I had a good time getting to know co-workers and I woke up this morning with a very sore hind end.

New Shoes

Ok so why isn’t that really cute shoes that you try on in the store feel fine until you wear them for the first time outside the store? Does the cashier change the shoes when your not looking right before you leave the store?
My feet hurt so bad but I really like the shoes and can’t take them back now. I just hope over time they will break in instead of me crying with every step.

Yoder Day

Today I drove about 25 miles west of Wichita to a little Amish town with the name Yoder. Today was their “Yoder Heritage Day”. As I was driving there I passed a little Amish family in thier horse drawn carriage. The odd and funny part was that the carriage part was made out of an old Chevy truck bed!

Aug 19th

Today was the first day of orientation at my new job in Wichita KS. It was a day of sitting in a classroom and going through all the normal oreintation stuff.
At the end of the day I moved in to my temporay housing, which is a very nice duplex/twinhome. It is a four bedroom home with 2 on the main level and 2 downstairs in the basement. Yes there is a basement for all that were worried about the tornados. This home if very nice, kind of wish I could just rent it.
The next two days is more orientation.
I visited a church this past sunday, NewSpring, it is much like COTH. There are a few more that I want to visit before making one home.
Well, that is enough for now. The sleep fairy is calling. Till then…
